According to the author, music crystalizes the emotions, which also activates the chakras. The problem is that chakras activated internally are connected with memories, personality, and conditioned responses, which can stir up defense systems. Once they are activated, energy no longer flows as freely through the chakras. In addition, the flow through the chakras influences the distortion or negativity of emotions consciously or unconsciously expressed. As humans, we pride ourselves on being a thinking species; but, we remain creatures driven by emotions. The discipline of spiritual detachment should be the awareness of how external influences affect our internal responses and choices. He also says that music can allow emotions to flow throughout the chakras, which keeps the chakras activated and the individual motivated. Music empowers us by keeping us imprisoned in the music that we crave, which could release emotions internally blocked from free expression. When life is hard, singing about it helps either ease or remove the pain. When we are frustrated by feeling restricted by social conditions, music releases the frustration and anger. Tension is released in a non-threatening manner, since the singer does not have to claim personal responsibility to feel and express the emotion of the music itself. This is true on all levels, and I appreciate the fact that music is not just something to help people relax after a hard day. It also cleanses peoples' spirits internally, and increases spiritual energy.
